Remo D'Souza, wife, and five others accused of cheating dance troupe uut of ₹11.96 crore

Renowned choreographer Remo D'Souza, his wife Lizelle, and five others have been accused of cheating a dance troupe out of ₹11.96 crore in Maharashtra's Thane district. This legal issue came to light when a 26-year-old dancer filed a complaint at the Mira Road police station on October 16.

The allegations date back to a deceitful scheme that reportedly began in 2018. The complainant and his troupe participated in a television competition, emerging victorious. However, the accused allegedly misrepresented themselves as representatives of the dance group, claiming the prize money intended for the actual winners. This betrayal left the dancers devastated, as they were denied their rightful earnings.

The FIR identifies not only Remo and Lizelle but also names Omprakash Shankar Chouhan, Rohit Jadhav, the Frame Production Company, Vinod Raut, and Ramesh Gupta. They are being investigated under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including forgery (Section 465) and cheating (Section 420). Authorities are actively looking into the claims to gather more evidence and ascertain the extent of the alleged fraud.

Remo D'Souza, known for his significant contributions to Indian dance through popular reality shows like Dance India Dance and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, has garnered a large fan base over his 15-year career. The shocking nature of these allegations has raised eyebrows across the entertainment industry, leading to speculation about the potential repercussions on his reputation and career.

Despite the unfolding legal issues, Remo is poised for the release of his latest film, Be Happy, set to debut on Prime Video. The film, which stars Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma, focuses on the emotional journey of a single father and his daughter, generating considerable buzz in the lead-up to its release.
